Employer collaboration in developing graduate employability: a pilot study in Ireland

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the impact on student work readiness outcomes collaboration with employers in developing and delivering tailored graduate employability workshops socio-emotional skills for (SES4Work). Design/methodology/approach Framed by CareerEDGE model employability, authors piloted a five-session module near graduates five disciplines. research included an online employer survey ( n = 128), interviews 21) graduates, culminating mock competency-based interview. Using pre/post-test design, participants 24) also completed Employability Development Profile (EDP) Trait Emotional Intelligence questionnaire (TEIque). Findings After completing module, there was statistically significant improvement participant scores EDP +12.3%, p < 0.001, effect size (Cohen's d) 0.89, large, TEIque +6.4%, 0.009, 0.61, moderate. Furthermore, 70% 17) were “hired” based their interviews, 12% 4) offered connections after graduation. Originality/value This first academic Ireland develop enterprise-collaborative, discipline-specific enhancing employability. suggest that can enhance efficacy interventions therefore merits further research.
